Beware of Newest Scam

January 19, 2024

At NASA Federal, the security of your accounts is a top priority. That’s why we’re providing information on the newest scam to hit the marketplace. Here’s how it goes.

You receive a telephone call about a NASA Federal debit or credit card purchase from a fake caller ID of “Fraud Department” from someone claiming to be from NASA Federal’s Fraud Department. They pretend to need to verify pending or attempted transactions on your debit or credit card, and typically have a portion of your credit or debit card number(s), such as the first 4 or 6 digits of the card and the last 4 digits of the card). They use this information to earn your trust and manipulate you into providing the middle digits of the card number(s), expiration date(s), and CVV code(s) in order to verify the falsified transactions they are supposedly calling about.

Rest assured, NASA Federal would never ask for your full card number, CVV, expiration date, or online banking login credentials. We also would never ask you to download any programs or applications during a call to enable screen sharing.

As always, don’t hesitate to call us at 1-888-NASA-FCU if you have a question about the validity of a text, call, or email. A Member Service Associate will be happy to assist you.
