“Thank you so much for considering me for the NASA Federal Mitchell-Beall-Rosen Scholarship. This generous scholarship will make a significant impact on my ability to finance a college education and go a long way toward helping me pursue a major in computer engineering at the University of Maryland.” -Steven Queen
The Mitchell-Beall-Rosen Memorial Scholarship honors the memory of Wilfred B. Mitchell, Donald V. Beall and Eugene Rosen and their dedicated service to NASA Federal Credit Union and its members.
Wilfred Mitchell joined NASA Federal in 1959, serving as a volunteer director and as Chairman of the Board from 1968 to 1972. Mr. Mitchell used his strong sense of moral values and civic responsibility to promote the philosophy of “people helping people.” He received great satisfaction in helping young people prepare for the future – encouraging them to continue with higher education and to practice financial responsibility.
Donald Beall served as president of NASA Federal from 1965 until his death in 1991. Mr. Beall was known for his strong commitment to the credit union movement. But it was his local commitment to members that is most remembered – including his advocacy for higher education.
Eugene Rosen joined NASA Federal in 1961, was elected to the Board in 1962, and served as Treasurer since 1963. Among the many accomplishments for which Mr. Rosen will be remembered is his service to the Mitchell-Beall Memorial Scholarship program. The program has been re-named the Mitchell-Beall-Rosen Memorial Scholarship program to commemorate his significant contributions. Specifically, Mr. Rosen was instrumental in launching the program, was a scholarship committee member since the program’s inception and served as its Chairman at the time of his passing.
Established in 1983, the scholarship contest exemplifies the dedicated service and commitment to our young members that Wilfred Mitchell, Donald Beall and Gene Rosen conveyed throughout their lives. The Mitchell-Beall-Rosen Memorial Scholarship program embodies what they believed in – helping young members fulfill their educational dreams.
