What Is a Cash-Out Refinance?

A cash-out refinance allows you to take out cash from the equity in your home. For example, if you owe $200,000 on your mortgage and your home is worth $300,000, with a cash-out refinance, you could borrow up to $285,000 (95% of your home’s value), pay off the $200,000 balance, and receive $85,000 in cash. Overall, the difference between your old loan and the new loan amount is paid to you in cash.
